NKJV Study Bible- Review

It's been a little over four years since I started reading the Bible regularly.  I have always been a NIV fan because of the writing style, but when the NKJV Study Bible became available for review through BookLookBloggers.com I knew it was time to get out of my comfort zone and give the NKJV a try since I really needed a Study Bible.  It didn't hurt that the Bible is my favorite color, teal.

About the NKJV Study Bible

If you have used The Nelson Study Bible New King James Version, then you have used the NKJV Study Bible. 

The NKJV is a nice mix of the KJV and the NIV in my opinion.  There is enough of the old language which makes it similar to the KJV, but there is also the usage of modern terms which makes it easier for me to understand. 

Studying Isaiah with the NKJV Study Bible

The NKJV Study Bible begins with a preface which explains the legacy, purpose, and style.  It is then followed up with an article by Earl D. Radmacher which discusses understanding the what the Bible means.  The article focuses on four elements of understanding the Bible: word focus, word relations, context, and culture.

Each book of the Bible is introduced with information about the author and background, the principal message, Christ in the Scriptures, and an outline of the book.

The pages of Scripture are divided horizontally with the Scriptures on top, and the breakdown of the Scriptures on the bottom half of the page.  Related Scripture passage addresses are placed in the middle of the two columns of Scripture instead of at the bottom like in most Bibles.   Not only is there the breakdown of the Scriptures in the study section, but there are also word definitions to help increase understanding of the passages on the page.

Using the NKJV Study Bible

I have found the NKJV Study Bible simple to use.  I appreciate the ribbon to help keep my place as I read the Scriptures. The first book of the Bible I am reading using the NKJV Study Bible is Isaiah, and I can honestly say having the additional information has helped me to have a better understanding of Isaiah.  When I originally started studying Isaiah, I used my NIV Bible which doesn't have any notes, and it was really hard for me.  Having a Study Bible comes in handy especially when you need additional knowledge about the time and culture.

 This isn't a red letter text Bible which is fine with me because it makes me focus on who is doing the speaking. 

Overall, I enjoy using the NKJV Study Bible to help me learn more about the Father.
